INDYCAR: Newgarden part of Gateway test

Josef Newgarden had never seen Gateway Motorsports Park before Thursday, let alone drive an IndyCar around the one-mile oval. But after spending the day testing, he’s a fan. “It’s a cool track, very interesting, kinda like a combination of Phoenix and Milwaukee,” said Newgarden, who ran along with Marco Andretti, Ed Carpenter, Graham Rahal, Tony Kanaan, James Hinchcliffe and Sebastien Bourdais. “There’s a lot of loading in the corners and Turns 1-2 are tight and Turns 3-4 are more open and I think 3-4 is where you’re going to be able to make stuff happen in the race. “But I’m a big advocate of short ovals and I’m really glad this one is on our schedule.” It was...
