INDYCAR: Newgarden cleared to practice

Ed Carpenter Racing's Josef Newgarden has been cleared to take part in practice on Friday at Road America by IndyCar's medical staff. Whether he will be able to take part in Sunday's race remains to be determined, however. The Tennessean suffered a fractured right clavicle and a small fracture in his right hand in a frightening crash June 11 during the in the suspended Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. He has been undergoing treatment at the Indiana Orthopedic Hospital by IndyCar consultant Dr. Kevin Scheid.
