INDYCAR: Chaves hopes SPM showing opens doors

Gabby Chaves will get another chance to deputize for Mikhail Aleshin after a strong debut with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports at Phoenix. The 22-year-old was a last-minute stand-in for Aleshin in the No. 7 Honda when the Russian encountered problems with his visa, and has gotten the nod to continue pre-season testing with SPM as a temporary teammate to James Hinchcliffe at Sebring on Wednesday and Thursday. From a field of 21 cars during the two-day IndyCar Spring Training event on the Phoenix mile, the Colombian-American racer was 11th overall in the first practice session for the SPM team, ninth in the Friday night session, 14th in the third, and 15th in the final session.
