Pigot: “Before I knew it, I was going backwards”

Apart from a sore foot, Spencer Pigot is fine after his 220mph wreck at Turn 1 this afternoon, but he remains puzzled about why it happened. The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rookie told Motorsport.com: “I don’t think it was the bump at Turn 1 that caused [the accident], because I was further around, near the exit of the corner, when it let go. “But before I knew it, the rear let go, the car drifted up and I was going backward.” The 23-year-old rookie, who has made just two previous IndyCar starts (St. Petersburg and Grand Prix of Indianapolis) said he had not taken a different line through Turn 1 when he shunted on his 40th lap of the day. “The team have looked through my data...
