Indy 500: Briscoe confirmed as Hinchcliffe's replacement

As widely expected, Schmidt Peterson Motorsport has turned to the experienced and safe hands of veteran IndyCar driver Ryan Briscoe to take the place of James Hinchcliffe in Sunday's Indianapolis 500. Hinchcliffe is out of the Verizon IndyCar Series for the foreseeable future after sustaining left thigh and pelvic injuries in a practice accident on Monday. Hinchcliffe remains in hospital at IU Health Methodist Hospital but is reported to be making "substantial improvement" and is out of intensive care following emergency surgery from which he is expected to make a full recovery.
