Alonso felt Indy 500 pole was within reach

– McLaren-Andretti debutant Fernando Alonso believes pole position for the Indianapolis 500 was within his reach, following a minor engine glitch during his four-lap run on Sunday.Alonso, having placed seventh in the first qualifying session, securing a spot in the Fast Nine, had to undergo a precautionary engine change prior to his run in the pole shootout.Alonso posted speeds of 231.113 mph, 231.440, 231.475 and 231.171, giving him an average of 231.300 across the four laps.The speed was sufficient for Alonso to capture provisional pole, but he was eventually shuffled down to fifth place by quicker rivals, as Ganassi's Scott Dixon set the fastest time."I think the car was...
