Engine failure ends Alonso's 500

Fernando Alonso's Indianapolis 500 adventure ended with the Spaniard retiring from the race after suffering a late engine failure. Alonso had led several times during the first half of the race, and was running seventh when his powerplant let go along the front straight on lap 179. "The whole day has been a very nice experience," he said. "The racing was fun, it was nice and I think the performance was good.
