Heavy rain hit Indianapolis Motor Speedway minutes before qualifying for the 101st Indy 500 was set to begin Saturday, postponing its scheduled 11 a.m. ET start and altering the qualifying schedule. Gabby Chaves led Saturday morning's final practice, while his Harding Racing team announced plans to race at additional ovals on the 2017 calendar. Only eight drivers participated because of the heavy air and humidity. A downpour ensued from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., but the sun was back out by 2:30 p.m. and the track drying process had begun.
