Indy 500 winner Rossi nominated for Y award

Verizon IndyCar Series rookie Alexander Rossi has been nominated in the 2016 Y “Best Driver” for his victory in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. The Andretti-Herta Autosport driver eked out his final fuel load for 36 laps of the legendary 2.5-mile track to grab an unlikely victory ahead of teammate Carlos Munoz. It meant the 24-year-old became only the 10th rookie to win the “500”, the first since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and the first American rookie winner since Louis Meyer in 1928.
