INDY 500: Hinchcliffe soars to pole for the 100th

James Hinchcliffe, who nearly bled to death after crashing a year ago at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, saved his best for last Sunday evening to nip Josef Newgarden for the pole position. Hinch won the catbird seat for the 100th Indianapolis 500 by four-hundredths of a second over Newgarden in the closest qualifying battle in IMS history. "I'm kind of a lot for words, which is unusually for me, but my car was a smoke job today, it was amazing," said the 29-year-old veteran who became the first Canadian to capture the pole.
