IndyCar: Dixon leads third practice at NOLA, but rookies steal the show

Three-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon set the fastest time of the weekend so far in third practice for the Grand Prix of New Orleans, lapping the 2.74-mile course in 1min18.5538sec, and average speed of 125.570mph. But it was the third and fifth place drivers who stole the plaudits, as the 2014 and 2013 Indy Lights champions, Gabby Chaves and Sage Karam, finished within a quarter second of the leader’s Chip Ganassi Racing entry. Chaves’ Bryan Herta Autosport entry was thus the top Honda runner, just 0.1682sec off top spot, splitting the Team Penske Chevrolets of Simon Pagenaud and Will Power.
