Hinchcliffe taken to ICU after surgery, in 'stable' condition

IndyCar has updated the condition of driver James Hinchcliffe. INDIANAPOLIS - IndyCar has given a new update on the condition of Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports Honda driver James Hinchcliffe, who crashed heavily during Indy 500 practice today (VIDEO). The accident was blamed on a suspension failure in the right front pushrod. Upon being transported to a local hospital, he was described as being as 'awake and alert.' He has undergone successful surgery on his upper left thigh for an unspecified injury. He has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of IU Health Methodist Hospital and is in stable condition.
