Indy 500: Dixon scores his second pole at IMS

Scott Dixon will be hoping it’s a good omen – the last time he took pole for the Indianapolis 500, he went on to win the race. Seven years later, he held off strong challenges from Team Penske and his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Tony Kanaan to put the famous Target No. 9 in prime position for next Sunday’s 99th running of the world’s most famous race. With downforce levels increased, and turbo boost reduced following a third airborne accident this morning (for two-time Indy 500 polesitter Ed Carpenter), Dixon’s four-lap average of 226.790mph looks slightly underwhelming, but it was enough to hold off reigning IndyCar Series champion Will Power and a second Team Penske entry,...
