Josef Newgarden chased to victory by Alexander Rossi in wet Detroit Race One, Scott Dixon crashes out

Team Penske's Josef Newgarden clinched his second race victory of the 2019 season after being hustled by Alexander Rossi all the way to the chequered flag in the first of two races of the 'Dual In Detroit'. Lightning and heavy rain conditions prevented the race from getting underway for over an hour which meant a change to a timed 75-minute race instead of the 70 laps. In a race filled with numerous caution periods, Newgarden led Rossi away on the final one with 12 minutes on the clock and both pulled away from the chasing pack at a ferocious pace - almost a second a lap. Rossi hounded the 2017 series champion through all his might, but couldn't overhaul the#2...
