IndyCar: Dixon beats Penske trio to win Long Beach

Scott Dixon finally earned his first victory in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, 15 years after his last victory here in Indy Lights. The three-time IndyCar champion drove his Chip Ganassi Racing-Chevrolet to a 2.2sec victory over polesitter Helio Castroneves who lost the lead during the lap 30 pitstops. The Brazilian’s crew sensibly held him in his pitbox as Dixon’s teammate Tony Kanaan was diving into the box ahead. That was enough to ensure Dixon emerged ahead and he never lost the lead thereafter except in pit stops. The Kiwi kept the gap between two and three seconds for the remainder of the race.
