Newgarden cleared to race on
Josef Newgarden, who has been nursing a fractured hand since a crash at Texas in June, has been cleared by doctors to race at Mid-Ohio, despite another shunt in Toronto. The Ed Carpenter Racing driver, clouted the curb at Turn 5 and had the wheel wrenched out of his hands on Lap 58 of Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto. And while he put a brave face on the matter, he appeared to be in pain and speculation was that he’d further damaged the hand.
