Newgarden and Daly in vicious shunt in Texas

Josef Newgarden and Conor Daly had a 200mph shunt in Turn 4 at Texas Motor Speedway on lap 42 of the 267-lap Firestone 600. Daly was exiting Turn 4 when his Dale Coyne Racing-Honda got loose and when he applied opposite lock, the right-rear hooked up and sent him up the track where he smacked into Newgarden’s Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet. The right-rear appeared to mount the side strake in front of the left-hand sidepod of the #21 and strike the cockpit area of Newgarden’s car while simultaneously pushing it into the SAFER barrier.
