IndyCar: Pagenaud takes his first pole for Penske
Simon Pagenaud earned his first pole position for Team Penske-Chevrolet, the second of his Indy car career and his first on an oval, when he clocked the first 219mph lap of the weekend and finished up with an average of 218.952mph. That was enough to eclipse his remarkably consistent teammate, last year’s polesitter Helio Castroneves who ran two laps of 218.73mph. That was a full 1mph faster than the quickest Honda-powered car, the Andretti Autosport entry of Marco Andretti who nonetheless will line up third, alongside Ed Carpenter (CFH Racing-Chevy).
