IndyCar: Briscoe puts SPM-Honda on top at Fontana
Ryan Briscoe's name was a surprise and welcome sight at the top of the leaderboard in first practice at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. The Australian who turned in a superb performance for Schmidt Peterson Motorsport-Honda at the previous oval on the schedule, Texas Motor Speedway, snatched P1 in the No.5 Dallara-Honda lapping the two-mile track at an average of 217.451mph in the final four minutes. The man he supplanted at the head of the timing screens was Andretti Autosport-Honda's Marco Andretti who was polesitter here back in 2012.
