Carpenter crashes heavily on qualifying day at Indy
The 2013 and 2014 Indianapolis 500 pole sitter Ed Carpenter has crashed heavily during practice that precedes the qualifying session for the 99th running of the race. The part-owner of the CFH Racing outfit lost control at turn two, hitting the SAFER barrier hard, and much like the incidents with Helio Castroneves and Josef Newgarden earlier in the week, went airborne, ending up on its side on the back straight. The American driver, going for an unprecedented third pole position at the track, was able to walk away from the incident, but it will need a lot of work to get him out on track for this afternoon's qualifying session.
