Castroneves wins 50th pole at Road America

After throwing down the gauntlet in just one lap in Segment 2, Helio Castroneves went even faster in the Firestone Fast Six to earn his 50th career Verizon IndyCar Series pole. His 1m41.3007s final lap earned him his sixth front-row start and third pole this season. Team Penske again locked out the top four spots, with 2016 pole and race winner Will Power (+0.0604s), Josef Newgarden (+0.3601s) and Simon Pagenaud (+0.7378s) not far behind. But it was clear early on that Castroneves, who ran a 1m41.826s lap in the second segment, was the class of the field.
