Scott Dixon escapes injury in massive Indianapolis 500 shunt
Indianapolis 500 pole-sitter Scott Dixon escaped injury after a massive accident on Lap 53 of the 200-lap race. Dixon became airborne when he struck the rear of Jay Howards #77 car, which moments before struck the wall after running wide at Turn 1 and ran across the track into Dixon's path. Dixon then landed on the SAFER barrier on the inside wall, tearing down part of the catch fencing which required a lengthy repair under red flag conditions before the race could be restarted. Both Dixon and Harvey walked away from the crash, whilst a photographer nearby was taken to the medical centre for checks.
