Dixon claims third 500 pole, Alonso fifth

– Scott Dixon earned his third Indianapolis 500 pole position in thrilling fashion on Sunday, averaging 232.164 mph over four qualifying laps and eliciting audible roars from the crowd. The Kiwi was the only driver to top 232mph but was worried his Ganassi team had trimmed off too much downforce prior to his run.Aided by data from his team-mate Tony Kanaan's earlier attempt in the Fast Nine, only Dixon's fourth lap dipped into the 231 mph range, catapulting him to provisional P1 with two cars yet to run.One of those two was Ed Carpenter, who had been quickest in Saturday's sessions. He had difficulty matching yesterday's speed, though, eventually dropping below 231 by his final lap....
