Sebastien Bourdais undergoes surgery after Indy 500 shunt

Sebastien Bourdais has undergone successful surgery for multiple fractures sustained in a horrific incident during his qualifying attempt for the Indianapolis 500. The four-time champion was on his third lap during Saturday qualifying when he speared violently into the SAFER barrier at Turn 2, obliterating the right-side of his car and even tipping him momentarily upside down. Once his car had come to a halt the ever-efficient Holmatro Safety Team arrived on the scene and transported him to the IU Methodist Hospital by ambulance where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures to his pelvis and a fracture to his right hip.
