Schmidt gains driving license, aims for In-N-Out

Sam Schmidt was today presented with America’s first driver’s license to operate a semi-autonomous car, and declared that a trip down the Las Vegas Strip and a drive-thru burger joint were next on the agenda. Schmidt, a quadriplegic since a testing accident in January 2000 at Walt Disney World course in Orlando, Fla., was presented with his license at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today. Earlier this year, in the second-gen SAM car, a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 developed and modified by Arrow Electronics, Schmidt clocked four laps well over 100mph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and reached a peak speed of 152mph.
